DO YOU BELIEVE THAT VOCATIONAL TRAINING CAN SERVE AS A PREVENTIVE MEASURE AGAINST DRUG ABUSE?

At the Community Conversation in Bamenda, some youths proposed that a focus on skill acquisition will contribute greatly in diminishing drug abuse.

Clinton Abai, who was an active participant and member of the audience, advocated for a balance between Grammar Education and Skills Acquisition through vocational training. “if in schools, priority was given to both grammar education and vocational training ( skills), today persons who can’t afford to get white collar jobs will be able to use these skills, create something for themselvess… handwork will go a long way to keep them busy, while offering them a sense of purpose”

Other studies on the relationship between drug abuse and skill acquisition show that: “Life Training Skills can promote interactive, decision-making, problem – solving, critical thinking and stress management skills and lead to more social acceptability, which in turn reduce drug abuse tendency.”

But what do you think?

Vocational training Counts!
