Engaging Youth on HIV/AIDS Stigmatization

The Mike Yanou Foundation recently had the privilege of engaging with the vibrant students of Salvation Comprehensive High School, thanks to our project funded by Gilead, focused on reducing HIV/AIDS stigmatization amongst communities.

Our health expert delivered a concise yet impactful presentation that sparked meaningful conversations and reflections. We discussed how HIV/AIDS stigmatization can have devastating consequences, including social isolation, mental health issues, and decreased access to healthcare services. The students showed a keen understanding of these issues, demonstrating their capacity for empathy and compassion.

Our expert also highlighted the significance of creating a supportive environment, where individuals living with HIV/AIDS feel comfortable disclosing their status without fear of judgment or rejection. We emphasized the role that each of us can play in reducing stigmatization, whether through education, advocacy, or simply by being a supportive friend or family member.

The session concluded with a call to action, encouraging the students to become ambassadors of change within their communities. We urged them to share their newfound knowledge with others, promoting a culture of understanding, acceptance, and inclusivity.
