What if we told you that the most deadly aspect of HIV/AIDS is not the virus itself, but the stigma and shame surrounding it?
Today, the Mike Yanou Foundation continued its crucial conversation on reducing HIV/AIDS stigma at CRTV’s Mount Cameroon FM.
In this session, we delved into “Challenging Harmful Social Norms and Beliefs Surrounding HIV/AIDS”. Our objectives were clear: raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, promote inclusivity and acceptance, and foster a stigma-free environment.
We defined key terms: norms, stigma, discrimination, and misconceptions. This foundation was essential to ensure our audience understood the complexities surrounding HIV/AIDS.
Next, we tackled challenging these harmful norms. Strategies included creating support groups, sharing personal stories, and addressing cultural and religious beliefs perpetuating stigma. We also discussed complacency and its role in perpetuating harmful norms.
Finally, we concluded with actionable steps to dismiss these myths and create a more inclusive society. By working together, we can break down barriers and build a world where people living with HIV/AIDS are treated with dignity and respect.
The question remains: will you join us in challenging harmful social norms and beliefs surrounding HIV/AIDS? Together, we can create a stigma-free world.
