Zero Stigma at C.C.A Bolifamba Community

In bold steps towards creating a compassionate and stigma-free environment, the Mike Yanou Foundation continues to advance its mission of reducing HIV/AIDS stigma and promoting cohesion with an awareness session held with youths of C.C.C. in the Bolifamba community.

The awareness session kicked off with an interactive discussion on ‘Understanding HIV/AIDS and some common misconceptions about the virus’. These responses sparked a thought-provoking conversation on separating facts from myths.

Expert-led presentations followed, providing invaluable insights into HIV/AIDS prevention, and stigma management.

Participants asked questions such as:

Why does the virus spread so much in the body? What should you do if a carrier approaches you for a relationship?, How do you detect if he/she is a carrier?, Is the virus also found in the sperm, since one mode of transmission is bodily fluids? What are the treatment options available for someone living with HIV?

These inquiries demonstrated a genuine interest in understanding the complexities of HIV/AIDS. The expert’s clarification sparked a wave of understanding. The session also explored strategies for promoting social cohesion, with suggestions ranging from community events and support groups to education campaigns.

The Mike Yanou Foundation remains committed to empowering communities through awareness, education, and advocacy. We are grateful for the support that makes this work possible, thanks to funding from Gilead Sciences.
