The North West and South West conflict has had a profound impact on mental health. Individuals are directly exposed to traumatic events and heightened daily stressors. This has led to the adoption of harmful coping mechanisms, such as drug and substance abuse, which exacerbate the already challenging mental health conditions prevalent in conflict-affected areas. Raising awareness about the detrimental effects of substance consumption on mental well-being is crucial.
To this effect, we the Mike Yanou Foundation were at the OIC Center to educate the students through a participatory approach to substance abuse and its effect on our mental health. We further outlined better-coping mechanisms which are advisable and less harmless to the students. They include; Controlling stress, taking up healthy hobbies, taking time to reflect, avoiding negative peers, cultivating new and impactful friendships, going to therapy and Staying active.
