What People Get Wrong About HIV/AIDS and How We are Setting the Records Straight

The participants of Frankfils Comprehensive College were engaged and intrigued as our health expert delved into the crucial topic of Reducing HIV/AIDS Stigmatization.

The session commenced with a thought-provoking question: “Who understands what HIV/AIDS stands for?” This sparked a lively interaction, setting the tone for an informative and enlightening discussion.

Our health expert proceeded to sharing how the virus can be transmitted, clarified common misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS transmission, and enumerated ways we can work together to ensure stigma reduction. The students were actively involved, sharing their thoughts and concerns.

A poignant moment arose when our health expert posed the question:

“If I have HIV/AIDS and I remove my jacket and give it to another person, will they contract it too?”

The participant’s initial responses reflected widespread misconceptions:

“Yes! Let the jacket not even touch me.”

However, our health expert gently corrected them, explaining that HIV/AIDS cannot be transmitted through casual contact.

Another question sparked a lively debate:

Health Expert: “Between the HIV/AIDS virus and malaria, which one kills faster?”

The participants’ responses were telling, with many assuming HIV/AIDS was the more deadly disease. Our health expert carefully explained the differences in incubation periods and transmission methods, highlighting that malaria is actually more deadly due to its shorter incubation period and rapid spread through mosquito bites.

As the session progressed, the students’ initial fear and shock gave way to a deeper understanding and empathy. They began to see individuals living with HIV/AIDS in a new light, recognizing the importance of compassion and support.

This educational intervention not only dispelled misconceptions but also fostered a more sympathetic approach toward individuals living with HIV/AIDS. As we continue to work toward reducing stigmatization, we are heartened by the enthusiasm and receptivity of participants at Frankfils Comprehensive College.

Huge thanks to Gilead Sciences for the opportunity to engage with these young minds!
